A walk in uncertainty

a long, slow climb out of the city

a stiff breeze blows away the cobwebs

what should we leave behind?

we choose to walk along the borders

development is a decision

what direction will we take?

we step into the natural world

improvement requires change

what are we open to?

here we feel ourselves relaxing,

with every breath we open and release

who will we choose to be?

we walk and the world turns with us

every step leaves a footprint

what impact will we have?

we are drawn to a sacred space

enduring monuments to a changing sky

what questions do we have?

take time to think and wonder

there are no certainties in development

what shall we explore?

“history is a pattern of timeless moments”
(T S Elliot)

what are our moments?

how will they guide us?

change is all around us

beauty is in imperfection

how can we encourage people to be  ‘in development’?

up above the rooftops the skylarks sing

our hope is our humility

where can we be ourselves?

we look back on our journey

as the clouds gather over the land

what can we carry forward?

when the rainclouds gather in

it helps to be prepared

what resources can we draw on?

we drop back into the city

in the rain

what is our next step?

how can walking ‘in development’ help us live in a world that doesn’t share our values?
