At the end of a full day
we are called back to the sea
the sun prepares to set
the turning tide recedes and
the first hints of Autumn hang in the air.
Sun streams through broken cloud
colouring the distant hills
gifting glimpses of the depth of heavens
far beyond our reach
The show is soon over
colour seeps out of the land
groups of geese arrive and honk out a curfew
and the flittering flocks of terns settle slowly
and fade into the darkening sand.
